UncategorizedSeptember 21, 2026by Mariana Paul Gerard0NSW Club Directors: Know Your Training Requirements

Directors have two compliant training pathways, not one.  There is a sensible industry specific program.

Directors must be fully trained within twelve months of joining the board; small clubs must have at least two fully trained members on the governing body.

Under the Registered Clubs Regulation 2025, in force since 1 September 2025, club directors must complete either ClubsNSW Mandatory Director Training program.  Alternatively, an approved Registered Training Organisation (RTO), such as Barrington Education Group, provides the following programs, qualifications that are nationally recognised.

BSBOPS406 Participate in organisational governance

BSBFIN501 Manage budgets and financial plans — or superseding and equivalent units.

Further, Directors of venues with gaming machines should ensure they meet current Liquor & Gaming NSW responsible gambling training requirements, including Responsible Gambling Board Oversight where applicable.

And a Responsible Gambling Officer has been mandatory in venues with more than 20 machines since 1 July 2024.

These programs are offered by Barrington Training Services.

It is clear that the government, through Liquor & Gaming is serious about governance and compliance.  Recent public disciplinary actions announced by Liquor & Gaming NSW reinforce the regulator’s focus on governance, conflict management and procurement compliance.

Liquor & Gaming NSW continues to emphasise the importance of declaring conflicts of interest, following procurement processes and maintaining strong governance standards.
