A superb retreat for a family, group of friends, yoga centre, church group, sports club, wedding or celebration. We offer comfortable and affordable eco-friendly accommodation. The Lodge and Cottages are set in a forested wildlife reserve on the beauiful Chichester River. There is a network of lovely walking trails for guests to enjoy (maps provided).
Groups: Can hire the whole lodge which accommodates up to 46 guests. Guests can self-cater or request catering. Guided bushwalks and other activities, like frog expeditions, face-painting, mud-brick making and more are on offer for Lodge guests.
Couples/Families: Two self-contained cottages nestled in the forest are available for visitors wishing to stay in our beautiful surroundings.
We run bushwalking weeks, yoga retreats, drumming weekends, school camps, sustainable living programs, surivial skills training and other programs.
We are one and a half hours from Newcastle and three hours from Sydney via F3 freeway. (Directions on our web site). The Cottages and Lodge are set amongst forest and wildlife on a 37 hectare Wildlife Refuge, with a one kilometre frontage onto the pristine Chichester River.
Wangat Cottages are simple, self-contained dwellings of mud-brick or timber. They can be booked separately or added to a lodge booking.
Melia Cottage accommodates up to five people (1 double and 3 singles).
Overflow Cottage accommodates up to seven people (7 singles).
The lodge consists of a main hall, with large lounge and dining areas, and fully equipped kitchen.Ten bedrooms with 2-6 beds are located along a central verandah, along with 2 shower/toilet blocks and 2 bathrooms (disabled access). An outdoor deck, BBQ area, library, laundry, pingpong table and volleyball court are available for guests use.
Catering is available on request.
Resident naturalists Ken, Helen and Nikki provide guided tours and local bushwalks for Lodge groups and for cottage guests, advice on local walks, trail guides, maps, wildlife and activities. We know the local area intimately!
Wangat Lodge is a vibrant education and accommodation centre offering programs for school groups and families. We are an education-oriented ecotourism operation
Wangat Lodge offers: Guided bushwalking activities, slideshows, craft, mudbricking, bush regeneration, music workshops, pond-dipping, spotlighting, frogging expeditions for Lodge groups. Maps and guide notes are available for Cottage guests. During the week Wangat Lodge is a centre for primary school camps, high school retreats, biology study camps, unversity field trips with programs of activities offered (see our web page). Family Holiday Programs, Bushwalking weeks and Creativity Camps occur in school holidays. Yoga, drumming retreats, survival skills training and workshops occur throughout the year. It is the ideal location for conferences and self-run camps and retreats.
Wangat is a designated National Parks and Wildlife Service Wildlife Refuge.
Due to this, NO DOMESTIC PETS are allowed.
